Healing Begins With Nonviolent Communication

When I was growing up, passive aggression, denial of reality, gaslighting, and stonewalling were modelled by my primary caregivers, as was modelled to them by their parents.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
These communication patterns became my own through childhood and into adulthood.⁣
⁣⁣
The commitment to unlearning default, inherited violent communication is by far, my most challenging – and most rewarding – life’s work.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Nonviolent communication is not an academic study that you master through reading books, and studying courses online (much to my ego’s disappointment!)⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s a practice, and a devotion.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
A daily, weekly, (and sometimes, hourly) practice that requires patience, kindness, and a willingness to accept another point of view.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s a devotion that generates a gift so powerful that perhaps wasn’t modelled as you were growing up, but that you are now able to model for your younger self, and others.⁣

And that gift is Compassion.⁣
⁣⁣
It is profoundly healing.⁣
⁣⁣
If you see aspects of your own story here, and you’re feeling curious about nonviolent communication, a good place to begin is the book, “ : ” by Marshall B Rosenberg, PhD⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Healing within ourselves, and with others begins with nonviolent communication.⁣
